此前，联邦检察官请求法院判处德帕普40年监禁，因为其罪行符合联邦对恐怖主义的定义，应加重量刑。检察官说，德帕普对自己的罪行毫无悔意，重判将对其他出于意识形态极端主义动机的潜在袭击者起到威慑作用。
